We’ve entered the home stretch of Amazon’s October Prime Day event, which has many people frantically adding items to their cart. But the final 24 hours has others wondering if they should head to the checkout or wait for a bigger, better sale. Say, for instance, Black Friday. (Although there’s also the Target Circle Week sale happening now, too.)

If you’re questioning whether the October Prime Day deals are better than Black Friday sales, you’re not alone. It’s a valid question, especially if you have a kid on the way because, well, they’re expensive. I’ve been covering Prime Big Deal Days, Black Friday and plenty of other shopping events for almost a decade, so I have some idea of what will be on sale during Black Friday 2024 — and whether those deals are better than the October Prime Day deals you can shop today.

Based on this expertise, and my personal shopping experience as a toddler mom, here are the pregnancy and baby deals you can expect during Prime Big Deal Days and Black Friday, so you can make smarter shopping decisions for both events.

Are Prime Day Deals Better Than Black Friday Sales?

Both October Prime Day and Black Friday are guaranteed to save you money on everyday essentials, big-ticket necessities and treat-yourself splurges. As to which deals are better, it really depends on what you are buying.

Given October Prime Day’s post-summer timing, there are deep discounts on sunscreen, beach toys, swimsuits and other warm weather must-haves. Similarly, clothes are also on sale right now, as people transition from summer to fall fashion. There are also plenty of deals on festive clothing and decorations for Halloween, Thanksgiving and more. October Prime Day is also a great time to stock up diapers, wipes and bottles, with some brands offering up 50% off.

In short, if you’re stocking up on essentials or preparing for the holidays, Prime Day deals are better

For pricier purchases, however, you may want to wait until Black Friday. Video monitors, car seats, strollers and nursery furniture are notoriously cheapest during Cyber Weekend. Some examples include:

Beauty essentials and tech gear are also more heavily discounted during Black Friday. Plus, just about every retailer participates in Black Friday, so you’re not limited to what’s available on Amazon. This gives you a better chance of saving on the exact item you want, and you can even do some price comparisons to find the best deal.

Basically, Black Friday deals are for people who are expecting a baby, moving to a new home or hoping to buy a more expensive item.
