I Buy the Best Matching Holiday Pajamas for My Family Every Year — Here’s Where to Shop

Parents in the WTE community often flock to Hanna Andersson for high-quality, super-comfortable PJs. “Hanna clothes are amazing! Last forever, we get our Christmas jammies from there every year,” says one WTE parent. 

There are tons of options to choose from, including classic patterns, like the Striped Long John Pajama Set, Festive Forest and other fun prints. My own boys have loved wearing their holiday Star Wars Christmas pajamas in years past. There are also “fancier” pajamas you can wear long after the holiday season. Made with 94% Tencel lyocell, a breathable fabric that’s known for its temperature regulation, the relaxed fit has cuffed sleeves and a button collar top (also available as a nightshirt) for an extra sophisticated look. 

One thing to note is that these PJs are more expensive than others, especially since the adult two-piece sets are sold as separate items (which could be a plus, though, if you only want to buy the bottoms). That being said, many WTE parents say that they’re worth the price. In my experience, if you size up a bit, these sets can actually last a couple of seasons, depending on how fast your kiddos grow. They’re stretchy and hold up well, even with frequent washes. 

One place WTE parents love to shop for high-quality baby clothing is Burt’s Bees. Not only do they use organic cotton, but the fabrics are also GOTS-certified (the gold standard when it comes to environmentally and socially responsible textile processing). The result? Ultra-soft fabric that is breathable and gentle on skin, especially baby’s. 

Their Christmas patterns are slightly limited compared to other retailers on this list, but they’re positively adorable: there’s Jolly Reindeer, Hot Chocolate and Santa’s Workshop, to name a couple. But my absolute favorite? The new Home Sweet Home design. A winter landscape complete of snow-frosted cabins, evergreen trees and polar bears covers footed sleepers and jogger bottoms. Plus, it’s super easy to order from the site — just add the amount of each size you need and checkout. They even have matching pet bandanas.

Target has a huge variety of holiday options at great prices, so it should come as no surprise that it’s one of my go-to shopping destinations for matching family pajamas. The holiday-inspired Wondershop line offers everything from classic red buffalo check flannel to a cheeky and cute green and white set with “Stop Elfing Around” on the front. There are also character prints like The Grinch that your little ones are sure to love. Each features soft, OEKO-TEX-certified cotton and an elastic waistband for a comfy fit. 

Other reasons to shop at Target: Nearly all pajamas are budget-friendly (starting at $12 for a two-piece set), and adult sizes come in women’s plus size and men’s big and tall. 

Old Navy is a staple among WTE moms for affordable but quality maternity clothes — and the same goes for their matching family pajamas. I’ve personally purchased a few holiday pajama sets at Old Navy over the years and it’s hard to beat their quality and durability at such a low price point. 

You can buy children PJs for as little as $15 and adult matching pants for $25. But what really makes Old Navy a go-to among bargain hunters is the fact that they’re almost always running a sale, so you rarely have to pay full price. Check out the holiday critter prints (featuring holly jolly dogs, reindeer, and snowmen) or the adorable Santa Claus print. Their matching family Hanukkah print pajamas are also fantastic.

If I had to pick just one style to recommend, however, it’d be the simple, classic flannels in traditional tartan. Mix and match with the white, red or green plaid bands for a distinct yet cohesive look (there are even matching maternity styles for moms-to-be!). Each of the classic combos is available as loose bottoms and collared tops or a more snug-fitting crew neck and long john-like pairing. 

Tons of WTE parents rave about Little Sleepies, with a few warning you’ll become “addicted” once you buy a super cozy pair. Made of a stretchy bamboo viscose, these PJs are designed to be cool in the summer and cozy in the winter. It also has a little more stretch for extra comfort, and the fabric is said to be gentle on sensitive or eczema-prone skin. I also love that they have a Family Matching Bundler on their site, so you can enter each member of your family and buy everything in one go rather than having to click around for the right sizes. Shop baby onesies, toddler and kids two-piece sets, along with adult tops and bottoms. (It also makes it easier to see all that’s in stock.)

They have tons of adorable pajama patterns available this year, including Twinkling Trees with either a green or pink background, a Peppermint Mocha outfit decorated with cookies and cocoa, a Pixar-themed option (pick your preschoolers favorite character to avoid a photo meltdown!) and the Playful Dreidels design featuring menorahs and the Star of David. Their limited-edition, festive fair isle prints are the most popular from the Holiday collection, though, starring seasonal stripes, snowflakes, snowmen and cheerful “Cheery, Joy, Merry” text on one-piece zippies and two-piece sets. A tried and true favorite for many WTE community members, Carter’s has a fantastic selection of matching holiday pajamas for families in baby, toddler, kids and adults, so you can all perfectly match. Each pair is snug and stretchy, so you’ll sleep comfortably. 

For a “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree” moment, you can’t go wrong with a playful tree print on fleece draw-string pants and a button-down top. The rich green background contrasts nicely with the pearl-like buttons, making these feel a bit more elevated and special compared to other offerings from the brand.  

If that’s not your style, however, there a few other highlights: The Hanukkah design is fun and playful with large blue and gold dreidels and menorahs. They also have a super cute Santa print with two different Santa skin tones to choose from, as well as more traditional plaid and fair isle patterns, plus so much more (I’m talking 178 different options).

The Children’s Place has a huge selection of holiday pajamas, too. Check out the buffalo plaid collection with different color combos, the Hanukkah collection that glows in the dark or the fun Feliz Navidad design. What’s more, is that each pair is made from soft cotton jersey material with wide crew necks for extra comfort. (Although there are other options in microfleece and waffle-knit henleys). 

And I can personally confirm they hold up really well — my kids wore so many pairs of pajamas from The Children’s Place and they were always able to be passed on to younger family members. This makes me confident that the higher price point for their adult sizes is worth it because they’ll last for years. (You can also try to catch a sale, which they host frequently!)

Although many of the picks on this list have plus sizing, Kohl's wide range of holiday pajamas has plus and petite sizes to shop, as well as maternity options for moms-to-be. Each pattern is also offered in a variety of styles, including nightgowns, shorts and some baby zip-up onesies. While not every single style or print is offered in every size, there are a ton of fun holiday-inspired designs to choose from like Candy Cane Fairisle, Jingle Bell Rock, and Merry & Bright Buffalo Plaid. Plus, there are even holiday character options like Bluey and The Grinch, so you’re certain to find something the whole family can enjoy wearing — especially since adult sizes include a wider range of plus and tall sizes in men’s and women’s. 

But you don’t have to celebrate Christmas to join in on the matching pajama fun — this navy fairisle print leans into the winter vibes with snowmen and snowflakes.

Amazon has, well, just about everything — including plenty of matching family holiday pajamas. Although it can be a little trickier to navigate, there are numerous different pop culture-themed options available. For space-loving enthusiasts, Amazon’s own in-house line offers ‘Star Wars’ Christmas pajamas that are yearly bestsellers. Printed on snug-fit cotton bottoms and t-shirts are Clone Troopers given a festive twist with winter beanies. And yes, it’s available in unisex adult sizing, too.   

Shop pajamas inspired by your favorite Christmas movies like ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas,’ ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ and ‘National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.’ Or, check out these Disney pajamas with all of your family’s favorite characters. There’s no shortage of choices. The e-tailer also sells an array of more traditional picks, including fair isle, plaid and this pretty pastel Christmas tree print. It’s also where you can grab a few of my favorite brands, such as Carter’s and Burt’s Bees. 

The family pajamas from Gigi and Max lean into classic Christmas vibes, best exemplified by the deep green, blue and red hues of Kane Tartan and the boxy black and red design of the Holland. Their adult pajamas are adorably referred to as “daddy” and “mommy” sets and all the adult pajama pants feature a functional drawstring waist and pockets for easy size adjustments. If you’re looking for something a bit more playful (and don’t necessarily need everyone to match), they have a Noelle Pink Trees print for moms, kids, and babies, as well as several baby- and kid-specific options, including red with green Christmas trees and a ruby dot two piece ruffle set.

I usually turn to Walmart for the best family Christmas pajamas because they have a huge selection year after year. Their Jollie Jammies line in particular is full of darling designs with reindeer and bears, a classic red truck hauling a Christmas tree and gingerbread cookies. They also have more traditional picks like green and red holiday plaid and red and black buffalo plaid. Some prints also have matching pet bandanas to get your four-legged friends in on the spirit of the season. Not all of the options are available in all sizes — for example, there’s no newborn size in the buffalo plaid onesie — but you’re sure to find something that works for your family.

If you want family Christmas pajamas that are soft, elegant and feature striking colors, Copper Pearl is where you’ll find them. You may have to go for a mix-and-match approach, as their women’s and men's sizes are only available in solid balsam green or cranberry red, but they pair beautifully with all of the baby and kids options (bodysuits and zip-up footies) — including accessories like bibs and blankets — and the high quality means they’ll last year after year, even if you swap out the designs your children wear. Match the kids in solid hues or let them have fun with a cute Gingerbread or Claus print.
