Between being a professional deal hunter and a self-proclaimed Target girlie, I’ve got my finger on the pulse of nearly every promo the retailer offers. And when I was about six months pregnant, I came — well, waddled — across a deal that’s saved me hundreds (dare I say, thousands?) of dollars over the past three years: Target’s diaper deal.
OK, the name might not make your jaw drop, but trust me, the savings will. One of Target’s most popular deals, this promo basically rewards you for stocking up on diapers, wipes and creams — the essentials we parents go through in abundance. For example, right now, you can snag a $30 Target gift card when you spend $100 or more on diapers and wipes from some of the best diaper brands, including:
- Huggies Little Snugglers, Little Movers, Natural Care Wipes and more
- Pampers Swaddlers, Cruisers, Overnights and more
- The Honest Company
- Babyganics
- Dyper
- Luvs
- WaterWipes
- Target’s up & up
If you’re wondering whether you’ll be able to spend $100 on diapering supplies the answer is yes. And while $30 may not seem like a lot, the promos run often enough that the gift cards can add up to some serious funds. Case in point: By the end of my third trimester, I’d racked up enough gift cards to cover a $200 baby monitor — without spending a dime of my own money. Bonus? I built a solid diaper stockpile that kept us from making any frantic, middle-of-the-night store runs once our daughter arrived.
But to really maximize this regularly recurring promo, there are a few tricks you need to know. Lucky for you, I’ve got them all.
How to Maximize Target’s Diaper Deals
Combine the gift cards with your completion discount: There are plenty of reasons to create a Target baby registry, and the 15% off completion discount is a big one. When mine kicked in, I added the Nanit Pro to my cart, watched the price drop from $191 to $162.35, and paid entirely with my gift cards. By stacking your gift cards with this discount — or other Target baby sales (which happen often) — you can stretch your money even further.
Build your diaper stockpile: This tip is less about saving money and more about saving your sanity. Whenever I shop this promo, I always grab one box of diapers in the next two sizes and stash them in my child’s closet. That way, I’m still earning gift cards while preparing for those inevitable growth spurts.
Hold on to your receipts: Sometimes stocking up can backfire, leaving you with boxes of diapers that no longer fit. Fortunately, Target lets you exchange unopened diapers within 90 days for a different size. (You could also return them, but keep in mind you’ll only be refunded the purchase amount minus the gift card value.)
Look out for similar promos: If you don’t have the space to store a mountain of diapers, you can still take advantage of Target gift card promos for other essentials. The retailer frequently offers deals on beauty items and household necessities — think paper towels, cleaning sprays, and wipes. In fact, Target is currently offering shoppers a $5 gift card when they spend $30 or more on select skin care products, including diaper rash cream, baby shampoo and eczema creams.
If the Target diaper deal is new information, then it’s time to put it on your radar. And if you’ve known about it for a while, it’s never too late to start implementing a few of these tricks to make your dollar go further.
